Soul to Soul Interfaith Project
Bait-Ur-Rehman Mosque: 7-9 PM, April 25th, 2017
Tapestory: Creating ICo (Inter-Community) Cohesion & Wellbeing through Dialogue with Youth
​​We were asked to conduct a Tapestory Workshop with high school age girls from different religious and ancestral origin backgrounds at Soul to Soul, an interfaith project created by the women of Temple Isaiah, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, and the Church of Latter Day Saints.

Dr. Kakoli Mitra, Esq., the Founder of the Śramani Institute , was interviewed by Eric Bond on his radio show 'Talk of Takoma'. In responding to some challenging questions about political divisiveness and denigrating portrayals of 'the other' in the US, Dr. Mitra talks about the Tapestory initiative, which works to eradicate hate and bigotry by increasing the understanding and appreciation of a diverse range of conceptual frameworks. Thanks to Eric Bond &  Takoma Radio ​.

​​We were asked to conduct a Tapestory Workshop with the Beloved Community Interfaith Network, an interfaith project in Prince George's County focused on working on social justice issues together.

Our second Tapestory #ICoCohesion Workshop used role-playing as a tool to understand differences. Participants were from a large variety of faith (Dharmik, Christian, Sikh, Jewish, Muslim), professional, and ancestral origin backgrounds and were engaged in hearing about each other's perspectives and experiences, while finding common ground.

Our first Tapestory #ICoCohesion Workshop was a great success. Individuals from across different ages, faiths, cultures, and ancestral origins came together to explore differences and find common ground through engaging activities involving dialogue and art.

Community Forum: How to Oppose Hate
Muslim Community Center - Feb. 21, 2017
The Tapestory team attended a panel discussion hosted by the Muslim Community center of Silver Spring, MD. Panel members discussed their views on how to counter hate and anger. About 200 people from diverse communities attended the forum. The panelists were: Imam Mohamed Abdullahi, Rabbi Ari Sunshain, Reverend Mansfield Kaseman, Gabriel Acevero, Hamza Khan, and Delegate Eric Luedtke.

Reaching out to Ward 8, Washington, D.C.
Anacostia, Washington, D.C. - Feb. 10, 2017
The Tapestory team visited community spaces and collaboratives in Ward 8, where residents face poverty, violence, and disenfranchisement on a daily basis. We spoke with the staff of the R.I.S.E. Demonstration Center, (a new community space with a computer lab, classrooms, and art installations) and of the Far Southeast Family Strengthening Collaborative, which has been steadily working to improve the lives of the residents of Ward 8.

2017 DC Inter-Faith Leadership Summit
Howard University - Jan. 29, 2017
The Tapestory team attended the 2017 DC Interfaith Leadership Summit organized by the Inter-Faith Conference of Metropolitan Washington. Over 30 people signed up to volunteer for the Tapestory initiative, as they stopped by the resource fair, where we explained our inter-faith project. The Summit offered three sessions of 8 simultaneously running workshops covering topics ranging from grassroots fundraising to women in faith.

Inauguration 2017 Weekend
Washington, D.C. - Jan. 20-21, 2017
The Tapestory team engaged with members of the public in different spaces in Washington, D.C., on Inauguration weekend. We collected Stories of Adversity & Resilience from natives of the Capitol Region and visitors from across the United States. We went to events of hope and unity and hung out at Union Station to speak to people who came to participate in the Women's March on the day after inauguration.

MLK Service Day in the Capitol Region
Howard University - Jan. 16, 2017
We took the Tapestory initiative to MLK Service Days across the Capitol Region, including in Prince George's County and Montgomery County. We spoke to people of different ages, ethnicities, national origin, and professions, who were eager to share their perspectives and their Stories of Adversity & Resilience . We also engaged with people at the Prince George's African American Museum & Cultural Center.
